TREE PLANTING

Tree Planting Service in Scarborough

Trees - the world would not be the same without them! We are so used to these plants being around, though, that we sometimes forget to appreciate how important they actually are. Not only do they produce oxygen for the animal life in our world and give birds and squirrels a place to call home, they add beauty to our planet, whether that's out in a serene forest or on a street in the middle of a bustling city.
Trees can improve our health, both mentally through reduction of stress and physically through the absorption of substances in the air which can cause us harm. They play an integral role in protecting the environment and can even prevent natural disasters such and floods or landslides from occurring. You really can't go wrong with planting and maintaining trees on your property as they offer a huge return on investment, in many more ways than one.

Let us look at some of the many, perhaps unexpected benefits of trees to show why tree planting is so important.

The Social Benefits of Tree Planting

At some point in your life, you have probably been outside, taken a deep breath and enjoyed listening to the rustling of the leaves as the wind passes through the trees.

Even if you're an incredibly extroverted person who loves spending time in the big city, we'll bet you like calmly walking through a park, being "out in nature" and enjoying the cool breeze and the sound of birds chirping, at least once in a while. Actually, numerous studies have demonstrated that being around trees reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline circulating through the body, lowers blood pressure, and improves mood.

The social benefits of trees go as far as shortening recovery times for patients in hospitals - those who have a view of trees from their room, or are able to walk by them, convalesce more quickly than others! People like trees - businesses with trees out front are more likely to draw customers. Additionally, trees on a property can increase the market value of a home by as much as 15 percent.
They certainly can make a property look more attractive. Just imagine a home with not a single tree around; unfortunately, it would probably look a bit desolate.

Trees not only make a property more picturesque; they can also serve the more practical function of blocking a home from the neighbor's view or a busy road, providing privacy. If the property is near a busy road, trees can absorb some of the sound. In the hot summer months, trees provide shade so people can enjoy outdoor activities, whether that is a barbecue or just reading a book while sprawled out on a lawn chair, without sweating.

The Environmental Benefits of Tree Planting

As you might imagine, trees are a hugely important part of the environment. As mentioned above, they produce the oxygen humans and animals need to survive and are home to many different species of birds, insects, and mammals.

Beyond that, though, they tend to improve the quality of the environment wherever they are planted! For example, trees have the ability to substantially increase air quality in their vicinity. This is especially important in cities which can often have huge amounts of pollution. Specifically, trees absorb particulate matter - particulate matter can cause a variety of health issues, from premature death in those with lung and heart issues, trouble breathing, or even problems with the health of newborns. One study performed by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) measured exactly how much particulate matter was absorbed by trees: the answer turned out to be between 7 and 24 % per tree, which is significant.

Speaking of cities, you may have heard of something called the "urban heat island effect." This simply means that cities tend to get hot because they're covered in so much material - for instance, concrete - that absorbs heat. Trees combat this effect, most obviously through shade. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, shaded areas can be a massive 20 - 45 degrees cooler than areas without shade. Trees also cool the surrounding area through the process of evapotranspiration, a complex name for when trees release water to protect themselves from high temperatures.

Since trees can lower temperature, they can save homes and businesses costs when it comes to energy expenditure: no need to run the air conditioner if it's not too hot. This is another way trees can indirectly help the environment. Trees improve the quality of the soil, too, by absorbing chemicals such as nitrogen from the air and transporting them into the ground through their roots. This can encourage the growth of other plants around the tree.

We mentioned above that trees can prevent natural disasters, but how? Trees are great at absorbing large amounts of rainwater, which they need to stay alive. If it weren't for the dense root systems of trees, this water wouldn't be slowly absorbed by the soil and would contribute to flooding or even landslides. Cities can have large amounts of runoff because they don't have enough trees - this then flows into rivers and causes flooding. Trees are also important in the fight against climate change. As you probably know, carbon dioxide is one of the worst offenders when it comes to the runaway greenhouse effect. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and transform it into oxygen, which means the more trees there are, the less carbon dioxide will contribute to global warming.

Why Call Our Tree Planting Services?

As you can see, trees deserve a lot more credit than they get. They are so common that we forget just how magnificent they are.
If you have trees on your property, or are planning on planting some, it's important to care for these beautiful plants just as you would any other. That means making sure they're watered in the case of a period of sparse rainfall and making sure to practice tree fertilization. It's also a good idea to get professionals to check up on your trees from time to time in case you've missed anything!

By planting trees, you will be doing yourself, the planet, and future generations of your family a big favor.
